One of the oldest challenge faced in any industry is effective employee training. But it's not just the task of training, it's the ultimate goal of employee retention. Fact, no matter what type of training an employee receives, if the skills and new terminology are not practiced, it is soon forgotten.
So how do we combat this age old dilemma? Simple! Learning systems have to be interactive, participative, rewarding, and above all employee driven/supported. Repetition is the key. But repetition must be achieved without killing the spirit of your employees.
So how do we as EHS Professionals achieve training retention? By implementing a learning system that can be practiced daily without interrupting production! We all know that OSHA has recently taken a stand against traditional incentive programs, as they should. However, not all incentives are bad. If that were the case then the employee "paycheck" would be the worst incentive of all. EHS professionals have to refocus efforts to engage employee through participation based/incentivized programs. Attaboys and individual recognition are your greatest allies.
Created in 2013 by Tonya Wells MS, CSP, SGE, Safety LINGO is revolutionizing how EHS professionals perpetuate information retention among employees. Employee are engaged daily with the desire to win while learning. Her program is now available to general industry! If your thinking " Ahaa, just another "SAFETY BINGO" game you couldn't be more wrong. It's a learning system where by employees have to learn definitions in order to participate. Incentive drive their desire in a process that takes only minutes a day to participate while creating proactive participation, communication, and above all LEARNING!
The system is so creative and inexpensive its almost unbelievable. But wait! There is another twist.... It's customized! That's right, this is not another off-the-shelf program destine to collect dust. As the customer, you work with EHSPR to create a custom list of words relevant to new program material, weak areas of compliance, or preparation for certifications such as OSHA's VPP, ISO, and any other company initiative. The whole program including consultation costs about $5.00 per employee, and can run as long as needed. The average cycle runs about 6 months. No sense in burn-out. Employee's need a break and this program is highly successful. Best of all when new regulations are promulgated/revised, corporate or company initiatives are pursued, EHS and management professionals now have a vehicle to proliferate learning long after the classroom lights go out.
